Esubalew Chekol

Software Engineer
Addis Ababa University

Esubalew Chekol, hailing from a rural part of Ethiopia with limited childhood access to electricity and the internet, discovered his early passion for poetry, fiction, and motivating others. Actively participating in a mini media club allowed him to showcase his talents through poem presentations to diverse audiences.

In grade 9, Esubalew’s first small keypad phone marked the beginning of his internet exploration. The year 2017, coinciding with his high school entry, became a turning point as he delved deeper into the realms of the internet, spurred by curiosity about its mechanics and mobile applications.

Despite facing challenges such as resource limitations, Esubalew recognized the code behind everything, fostering a curiosity-driven journey into technology. From his early school years, he demonstrated a knack for troubleshooting mobile issues, becoming the go-to person for friends and family.

In the 9th grade, armed with a keypad phone and limited connectivity, Esubalew delved into website building using platforms like WordPress, Webnode, Virb, SimpleSite, Google Sites, Blogger, and Weebly. His fascination with coding and building applications grew, leading him to decide on a career in technology—choosing Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information Systems.

After succeeding in the Grade 12 entrance exam, Esubalew secured a spot at Addis Ababa University. In 2021, he joined the Information Systems department, marking the commencement of his formal journey into the world of technology at AAU.
